Conditions

For all people from outside of Quebec

Are allowed to drive a vehicle on the road network for a maximum period of six consecutive months without holding a Quebec driver’s licence. However, the driver must hold a valid driver’s licence, with a class level corresponding to the vehicle category they are driving in Quebec, delivered by a government that gives the same privileges to Quebecers and must respect the conditions under which its permit was given.

The students, the cooperative, the trainee

That stays in Quebec is allowed to drive a passenger vehicle (class 5), for the duration of their studies or training without detaining a permit delivered by the SAAQ. However, the driver must detain a valid driver’s licence of an equivalent class delivered by a government that gives the same privileges to Quebecers and must respect the conditions under which its permit was given.

The holder of a valid driver’s licence

Delivered by a foreign authority, and that is establishing him or herself in Quebec, is allowed to drive a passenger vehicle (class 5) without the SAAQ permit, but only within the first 90 days following their arrival. Following this deadline, the driver must obtain a valid Quebec driver’s licence.

The holder of an international driver’s licence

Is allowed to drive in Quebec the vehicle the permit allows to.
